Mississippi River Paddle Upriver from Blakeney – Sunday June 20, 2021 10 am

Join your fellow MVFN members and their guests for the first trip of the season on the Mississippi River at Blakeney for a paddle up river to the rapids. We will take a side trip up the Indian River.

Watch for bird life along the river as well as turtles, including the Northern Map turtle.

Car Pooling: None

Directions:   From Almonte take Hwy 29, 6km, towards Pakenham. TR on Blakeney Rd, 750m to bridge. Park on the left just before the bridge. NOTE the parking lot may be busy with kayakers running the rapids. We will be going the other way! The put-in is on the right as you approach the bridge, right beside the town sign.

Time: Scheduled departure is 10 am. Trip duration is an estimated 2-3 hours return, but is weather dependent.

The trip:  A relaxed paddle on the Mississippi and Indian Rivers. Following the trip you can enjoy your socially distanced lunch in the park or stroll along the trail to the lookout below the falls.

Bring: lunch, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.

Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc.

Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found here. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

Safety: During the trip, all participants are requested to maintain minimum 2-metre distancing from other paddlers (outside their bubble).

MVFN membership must be up-to-date (check your membership card).  You can update and pay for your membership on the MVFN website. You may bring a friend or two, subject to the approval of the trip leader.

In case of severe weather, this event may be rescheduled to the Saturday June 19th, or cancelled. If in doubt, contact Art before 8 A.M.
