• Title: Our Neighbours by Porch Light: Finding Wonder in Moth Biodiversity
• Speaker: Tobi Kiesewalter
• Date: Thursday, November 19, 2026
• Program Theme: Biodiversity Makes a Difference
• Description:

Moths offer an accessible window into an astounding biodiversity that surrounds us. These winged, six-legged neighbours are easy to photograph, fun to observe and engage with and therefore offer an easy entry point into becoming a community scientist. Tobi will share his journey into mothing (yes, it’s a word), along with some anecdotes about their life history, biodiversity and ecological role.

For over 20 years, Tobi Kiesewalter was the Chief Park Naturalist at Murphy’s Point Provincial Park. He continues to work for Ontario Parks, now as the manager for the education and stewardship team in their main office. He is a certified interpretive guide, interpretive planner and interpretive trainer and has a degree in Environmental Science from Carleton University. He lives with his wife and three daughters, splitting their time between their home in Ottawa and the family cottage and work in Lanark County.
