Connecting people with nature in Ontario's Mississippi Valley

Natural History Speaker Series: Learn From The Experts

From September to May, on the third Thursday of the month, MVFN hosts nature talks by noted experts, exploring everything from nature in the region to global environmental issues. Talks are normally held at the Almonte United Church at 150 Elgin Street in Almonte, Ontario.    Recent nature talk topics have included: turtles,  hidden signals in the natural world and arctic adventures.

In January we will be beginning presentations on our new theme of “Eye Wonder: The Magic and Mystery of Our Natural World”. The winter schedule will be as follows:

January 21, 2021          Michael Runtz         Algonquin Wild

February 18, 2021        Owen Clarkin           What is Happening to Our Trees?

March 18, 2021             Paul Keddy               Wetlands

April 15, 2021                Modified Spring Gathering – stay tuned for details

By necessity, until further notice, all talks will be held on the Zoom platform (don’t worry, if you haven’t yet used it, it’s very straightforward).  The required link will be sent out to members in good standing prior to each meeting.  Meetings are generally from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm.  They include a review of members’ nature sightings during the past month, led by our resident expert, Ken Allison.
