Attention all MVFN paddlers: Opening day is May 29 2022

The MVFN hosts several paddle day trips in Lanark and neighbouring counties.

The theme of these trips is “Seeing Nature from the Water’s Edge.” The pace is slow, allowing participants to appreciate all that nature has to offer. Paddlers are encouraged to take photos and post them to iNaturalist.ca.

Day trips average about 4 hours. There are no portages, wide open or rough water. Locations are an easy drive from home. While basic skills in your canoe or kayak are required, there are always people willing to offer advice or assistance. Every trip is guided by a leader, often with special knowledge of the area, and accompanied by a certified first-aider.

This year’s trips are scheduled for:
Sunday, May 29
Saturday, June 18
Sunday, July 10
Saturday,  July 23
Sunday, August 7
Saturday, August 20
Sunday, September 25

In the event of inclement weather, the trip leader may switch to the other day of the same weekend, or cancel the trip.

Online registration is sent out to all members roughly two weeks in advance.

For those who enjoy sleeping under the stars, a weekend camp will be scheduled in September.

CALLING ALL LEADERS

The trips cannot be held without you! Whether you have led trips in the past or are willing to rise to the challenge, we are in need of volunteers. A comprehensive guide is available for new leaders and as a refresher for past leaders. The Paddle Committee has pre-approved a number of routes to choose from, most from Paddling Routes in Lanark County found on the website, but you are welcome to suggest a different route for approval. The coordinator will assist with the electronic registration.

For more information or to volunteer to lead a trip, contact Art Solomonian at info@mvfn.ca.
