Connecting people with nature in Ontario's Mississippi Valley

Update to the MVFN Canoeing/Kayaking Guide

Proposed 2020 Day Paddles

Dear MVFN canoe/kayak enthusiasts,

Ten years ago, we produced our guide called Canoe and Kayak Journeys of Lanark County.

Many things about our landscape have changed since then. For example on Route #1 Beckwith Township; Glen Isle on the Mississippi mentions there are several picnic spots towards Carleton Place. All of the land in this section is now privately owned and picnics are not allowed unless by permission of the owners. You will have to eat lunch from your vessel or back at your vehicle.

Several other journeys listed in the guide suggest lunch spots on deserted islands. Watch for and respect private posting signs on all private property.

Proposed Day Paddles for 2020

Our early spring paddle was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but we are planning to go ahead on the dates below as restrictions loosen and we feel we can safely explore Lanark waterways.

Saturday June 20 – Cliff Bennett – #24 Long Lake
Sunday July 12 – Simon Lunn – #21 Tay River to Beveridge Locks
Saturday July 25
Sunday August 9 – John Willis – route TBD
Saturday August 22
Sunday Sept 27

As you can see, there are still several openings for trip leaders and routes. We also need people with up-to-date First Aid qualifications on all paddles. Please get in touch with Art Solomonian if you can volunteer or suggest a route to explore.
