Paddling trip: Mississippi River/Pakenham
Join us for a paddle on the Mississippi River at Pakenham downstream to Hwy 17
Leader: Kathy Pilon
Directions: From Almonte, take County Rd.29 17 km to Five Span Bridge park in Pakenham. Approaching on CR 20 from Antrim is NOT RECOMMENDED as the bridge is closed intermittently for repairs.
From Arnprior, take CR29 from Hwy 417, 11km to the launch site.
Parking at launch site. Easy river access at the launch site: WARNING: Stay clear of rapids under the bridge upriver from the launch site.
Time: Scheduled departure is 10am. Trip duration is an estimated 4 hours return. We will stop for lunch near the Highway 17 bridge.
The trip: Easy, scenic paddle. Many shoreline wildflowers. Watch for kingfishers, blue herons, otters, and possibly red-headed woodpeckers.
Bring: lunch, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.
Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc.
Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found HERE. Registration is limited. Priority will given to members who were NOT on the Clyde River paddle on August 9th until Tues morning August 12th when all registrations will be processed in order of receipt. IF YOU END UP ON A WAITING LIST, YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED.
MVFN membership must be up-to-date (check your membership card). You can update and pay for your membership on the MVFN website. You may bring a friend or two, subject to the approval of the trip leader.
In case of severe weather, this event may be rescheduled to the Saturday August 23rd, or cancelled. If in doubt, contact Kathy Pilon before 8 A.M.
