Rose Hill Fufflemucker Trail

• Date: Sunday, October 4 (no alternate date)

• Depart: 10:00 a.m. from the trailhead on Rose Hill Road

• Location: Rose Hill Road, 1.6 km off Highway 41 north of Denbigh in Addington Highlands. Parking and meeting point at 45.159892, -77.224856. Note: Please enter from Highway 41. Do not access Rose Hill Road from Glenfield Road, which is an ATV trail.

• Duration: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Description of the Outing           

The Trail: The Brodey Trail leads up a gradual broadleaf forest slope to the Fufflemucker Pond loop, featuring fen-like verges and rock caps with stands of white pine and red spruce. A side trail heads up to the Mosquin Lookout on a forested ridge. The hike is about 2.5 kilometers long with roughly 50 meters elevation gain.

We can expect to see interesting late season plants and mushrooms, mostly resident birds and maybe a few waterfowl, plus mammal activity ranging from squirrels and chipmunks to beaver and otter, deer and more.

Accessibility: Participants must have excellent mobility and moderate fitness levels. Footpath with some roots and rocks, hiking poles may be helpful. Washrooms are not available at this location.

Transportation: No public transportation is available at this location. Carpooling is encouraged.

What to Bring: Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy, closed toe footwear. Don’t forget sunscreen, and bring bug spray/jacket if you wish. Please pack a lunch and snacks/water. There are no washroom facilities on-site. Plan to leave no trace.
