Join us as we continue to explore the Mississippi River at Stump and Izatt Lake

#6 in the Paddle Guide

Paddle: Roughly 3 hrs on Stump (~8 km rt), then an optional ~1.5 hr on Izatt (3-4 km rt) after lunch.

Carpooling: Possible shuttling required at launch site. WEAR YOUR MASK.


  • From Perth, take Hwy 511 to Balderson, left on County Rd. 7 through Fallbrook to County Rd. 12, left on County Rd 12 through McDonald’s Corners to Elphin and north on County Rd 36 two km, to Stump Lake.
  • From Almonte: take Wolf Grove Road to Hopetown. Turn left on Hwy 511 to County Rd 8 towards Watson’s Corners. Stay on County Road 8 to McDonalds Corners. Turn Right and follow the above directions.

The Launch Site: Small parking lot with dock. If the lot is full, unload and move your vehicle out to the roadway. The launch site is on a curve, so you should go south on County Rd 36 clear of the curve and park on the straight stretch. Work with each other to shuttle back to the parking lot.
Warning: We do not recommend that you park on the road on the curve.

Time:  Scheduled departure is 10 am. Trip duration is an estimated 4 hours.

The Paddle: We will paddle Stump Lake in the morning, stop for lunch back at the launch site, then head up the Mississippi River channel to Izatt Lake for a short afternoon paddle

Bring: lunch, lots of water, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.

Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc

Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found here. Please complete a separate form for each participant (see “Submit additional responses” when you submit the form) as we need the “agree” to the waiver from each person.

MVFN membership must be up-to-date (check your membership card).  You can update and pay for your membership on the MVFN website. You may bring a friend or two, subject to the approval of the trip leader. For further information, contact Andrea McCrady

In case of severe weather, this event may be cancelled or rescheduled to August 22nd. A confirmation email will go out just prior to the event. If in doubt, contact Andrea on the morning of the trip at 832-1700 before 7:30 A.M.
