Paddle on the Tay River

This trip replaces the July 12th event which was cancelled due to forecasted severe thunderstorm activity

Carpooling: None
Directions:

  • from Smiths Falls, take Hwy 43, which becomes Craig Street entering Perth. Cross the Craig St. bridge over the Tay River, turn left into the park.
  • from Almonte or Carleton Place, take Hwy 7  to Perth & navigate east through town. Turn left at Craig Street and right into the park just before the bridge over the Tay.
  • Park opposite the dock area, our launching point.

Time: Scheduled departure is 9:30 am. Trip duration is an estimated 3 hours return, but is weather dependent.

Difficulty:  This should be a relaxed paddle down the Tay River, through an old lock channel and into an open river & marsh environment. Boat traffic is usually light on the Tay.

Bring: lunch, lots of water, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.

Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc

Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found here. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

Safety: Due to no car pooling and other Covid-19 related restrictions, we have to return by the same route. During the trip, all participants are requested to maintain minimum 2-metre distancing from other paddlers (outside their bubble).
