MVFN Taylor Lake Paddle Day Trip July 10

Directions:

  • From Almonte take County Rd.16 (Wolf Grove Road) 12km to Lanark Concession Rd 12C (12 Line ). Turn north (right)
  • From Perth, take Hwy 7 25km to County Rd. 9 (Tatlock Rd.). Turn left. Drive 8 km to Wolf Grove. Turn left. Drive 3 km to Concession Rd 12C. Turn right.
  • From Carleton Place, take Hwy 7 9km to County Rd. 9 (Tatlock Rd.), turn right and follow Perth directions above.

The Launch Site: End of road

The Paddle:  Taylor Lake is connected to Clayton Lake. Circumnavigate the lake. In 1969 the lake was raised considerably with the reconstruction of the dam at Clayton, but watch for underwater stumps in bays. Directly in a line across the lake from the boat launch is Floating Bridge Road leaving the shore. Connecting these two points was a famous floating bridge. It was closed in the 1940’s but was wiped out by hurricane Connie in 1964 and many of the logs can be seen on the bottom of the lake.

Watch For:  Loons, ducks, geese, marsh and shoreline birds

Time:  Scheduled departure is 10:00 am. Trip duration is an estimated 4 hours return.

Bring: lunch, lots of water, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.

Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc

Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found here. Please complete a separate form for each participant (see “Submit additional responses” when you submit the form) as we need the “agree” to the waiver from each person.
MVFN membership must be up-to-date (check your membership card).  You can update your membership here. However, you may bring a friend or two, subject to approval of the trip leader. For further information, contact John Willis
