MVFN Fall Paddling/Hiking Camp

Several Spots Left for Fall Camp!

We already have 20 participants signed up for our MVFN Fall Paddling/Hiking Camp!  We will accept up to 10 more people for this hopefully still reasonably warm, and bugless, fall four-day camp at Whitefish Group Campgrounds in Algonquin Park.  This is a favourite place of ours, as there are a variety of lakes and rivers nearby to paddle on, as well as several beautiful walking/hiking trails.

The camp will take place from Friday, September 9 to Monday, September 12. We rent two group campsites – one for cooking and eating under our kitchen shelter and for campfires; the other for tents and trailers.  There is cold tap water and privy toilets nearby. For those who don’t wish to camp, there are reasonably priced accommodations in Whitney, a 25-minute drive from the camp site, but book soon!

We set up camp Friday afternoon, enjoy the area, or have a swim, then cook our own suppers, eat together and have an evening campfire, where we chat, tell tall tales and have a sing-a-long.  Saturday and Sunday, there are organized ½ day (@2 hours) or full-day paddles (@4 hours paddling, plus a stop for lunch), or hikes.  The paddles are similar to MVFN’s day paddles, “Seeing Nature by the Water’s Edge” – no portaging required!  Saturday evening we have a pot luck supper and campfire. Sunday, after our day paddles and hikes, we have leftovers for supper and a farewell campfire.  Monday we break camp and wend our way back home. Anyone working during the week can come up after work Friday, or early Saturday, and you can leave Sunday evening.

To register, please fill out the registration form found HERE for each person:

The cost is $80 per person. This may be paid either by MVFN PayPal, or by e-Transfer to Brenda Boyd at this email address.   You can find the MVFN PayPal link on the Home Page of the MVFN website,  Click on the “Donate or Payment” button on the right hand side, click on “Donate” and put “Fall Camp” in the message box at the end.

These fees cover the entry fee into the Park, the group camp sites fee, the per person/per night fee, parking and other group expenses such as firewood, etc.  Any surplus funds will be donated to the MVFN Young Naturalists Program.
