Our second paddle of the season is ready to go. Are you?
Leader: Simon Lunn, naturalist & photographer
Carpooling: None
Directions:
- from Smiths Falls, take Hwy 43, which becomes Craig Street entering Perth. Cross the Craig St. bridge over the Tay River, turn left into the park.
- from Almonte or Carleton Place, take Hwy 7 to Perth & navigate east through town. Turn left at Craig Street and right into the park just before the bridge over the Tay.
- Park opposite the dock area, our launching point.
Time: Scheduled departure is 9:45 am. Trip duration is an estimated 3-4 hours return, but is weather dependant.
Difficulty: Normally a relaxed paddle down the Tay River, through an old lock channel and into an open river & marsh environment. Boat traffic is usually light on the Tay.
Bring: lunch, lots of water, bug juice, binoculars, sunscreen, etc.
Ensure you are equipped with life jacket, bailing bucket, whistle, heaving line, extra paddle, etc
Registration: You must pre-register for this event by completing the form found here.
Safety: Due to no car pooling and other Covid-19 related restrictions, we have to return by the same route. During the trip, all participants are requested to maintain minimum 2-metre distancing from other paddlers (outside their bubble). If more than 10 paddlers show up, we will probably split up into two groups & stagger departure time of second group.
MVFN membership must be up-to-date (check your membership card). However, you may bring a friend or two, subject to approval of the trip leader. For further information, contact Simon Lunn at (613) 283-6663 or email simonloon@yahoo.ca
In case of severe weather, this event will be cancelled. If in doubt, contact Simon before 8 A.M
