The Beauty of Lanark County!

The MVFN Lanark County Biodiversity is a citizen science project for MVFN members and friends to add to the biodiversity record of Lanark County. Launched in 2020, the project proved to be an effective way for MVFN members to share and learn from each other.

Using the free iNaturalist app and a digital camera or smart phone,  participants walked their property or favourite hike and photograph what they saw.

Over 7,000 observations were made, resulting in nearly 2,000 species added to the MVFN project. Participants have already observed 44% of species documented in iNaturalist for Lanark County. Denis Gallant, the project coordinator, prepared a summary report on the project. You can read it on our website. He points out that we identified close to 50% of Lanark’s species, with observations concentrated in the eastern portion of Lanark County.

The project is continuing, and participants can join at any time. Here are a few instructions to get you started.
