Botany and Ecology of the Purdon Fen

MVFN Summer Terrestrial Outing

Botany and Ecology of the Purdon Fen

Sunday, June 19, 2011

This is an unparalleled opportunity to be guided through this fen and associated trails by botanist, Ted Mosquin, who has been intimately involved with the establishment and maintenance of this conservation area. We shall get an appreciation of the history and ecology of the fen, and we should see masses of Showy Lady’s Slippers in bloom as well as other interesting plants. This is a joint outing with the Ottawa Field Naturalists.

Meet Union Hall at 8:15 a.m. (departing 8:30 sharp) to carpool for those in the east, or 9:15 a.m. at the upper parking lot of the Purdon Conservation Area; entrance is off Dalhousie Concession Rd. 8, a few kilometres north of Hwy 8 (Watson’s Corners Rd.)

Bring hand lens, binoculars, lunch, water, hat, insect repellent, field notebook, and sturdy shoes.

For further information contact Ted Mosquin at 613-267-4899.

This trip is on rain or shine.
