DESCRIPTION:Pike Lake Paddle\n#26 in the MVFN Paddle Guide\nSaturday, July 22nd – 10 AM\nLeader: John Willis\nDeparture Time:  10:00am on Saturday July 22.  Please arrive at the launch site no later than 9:45am. If weather is not suitable, the trip will be rescheduled to the NEXT day, Sunday July 23.\nCarpooling:  At your discretion. None required.\nLaunch Site:  The public boat launch at the dam at Grant’s Creek.\nDirections:  Directions from Perth: From Hwy. 7 go into Perth (Wilson Street, then onto Gore Street) to County Rd. 10 (Scotch Line), then west on 10 towards Westport about 15 km. Watch for the faded boat launch sign on the left, 1 km past the turn-off to Stanleyville. If you are using GPS it is 4205 Scotch Line Rd. This is approximately 50 to 60 minutes from Almonte and 15 minutes from Perth.\nFacilities:  Unknown.\nTime & Length:  App 12km return. Roughly 4 hours\nThe Paddle:   Up Grant’s Creek into Pike Lake. Scenery includes several islands, an extensive wetland served by a half km. creek and an interesting and varied shoreline. We will look for a suitable lunch stop amoung the islands. The route is along the South shore.\nItems to Bring:  Lunch & snacks, water/drinks, sunscreen & bug repellent, hat, binoculars, camera/smartphone.\nPlease be sure to bring your safety equipment: life jacket, whistle, bailer, heaving line and extra paddle.\nAt all times, please remember that we are a group of Naturalists. Please do not approach or otherwise do anything to startle wildlife, particularly during the nesting season. Take pictures to share with the group and/or post on iNaturalist.\nRegistration:  You must pre-register for this event by completing the registration form found HERE\nMVFN Membership must be up to date (check your membership card).  If needed, you can update and pay for your membership on the MVFN website.  You may bring a friend or two, subject to space availability and the approval of the trip leader.  For further information, contact John Willis  by e-mail or phone 613-295-7730 (Cell) or 613-256-9233 (Home)\nIn case the forecast is for unsuitable weather on Sat.
