Connecting people with nature in Ontario's Mississippi Valley
Mississippi River at Pakenham

What species are found in our area?

Often when consulting a book of natural history for species identification,  say for example a book of bird species in Ontario, the inexperienced or even the experienced [in this example birder] may not be sure which species might occur in the local area.

On this website we plan to provide lists of local species which one may reasonably expect to occur in the Lanark County area. The idea is to provide lists for different groups of species possible which are as accurate as possible and have been provided by or reviewed by local experts. Readers can then consult other resources for complete information about the species and it’s identification. Where applicable we will also, or instead, post recommended links for further information about species.

Some species lists have already been posted.
